22 Rimfire Long Range Fire

2008 Schedule

22 Rimfire Long Range Challenge

Match Summary:  A challenging, multi-stage fun shoot that combines off-hand marksmanship (50 meters), benchrest precision on reactive steel (100 meters), benchrest precision on silhouette-style targets (150 meters), and an extreme long range challenge (200 meters) from the prone for .22 LR rimfires.  Any .22 LR rimfire rifle may be used, a different rifle for each stage if you desire.  As high a scope magnification as you desire.  Front and rear rests may be used for stages 1 through 3 (no sleds).  No wind flags will be allowed.  A total of 100 rounds will be required.  For Stages 1 though 3, each rifle should be capable of shooting 1 inch at 100 meters.  It is highly advised that a .22 LR Data Sheet be done for the particular ammo you plan on shooting.

Course of fire:

Stage 1:  Prone at 200 meters.  One hunter ram silhouette on a rail.  A total of twenty-five rounds, which includes sighters.  Fifteen minute time limit.  Each hit on the target counts as one point.  Fired first due to wind considerations as the morning progresses.

Stage 2:  Benchrest at 150 meters.  Five smallbore turkey and five smallbore chicken silhouette targets on a rail.  A total of twenty-five rounds, which includes sighters.  Fifteen minute time limit.  Each knocked down target counts as one point.  Saved rounds count as one point.

Stage 3:  Benchrest at 100 meters.  Fifteen 1”x1” steel targets on a rail.  A total of forty-five rounds, which include sighters.  Fifteen minutes time limit.  Each knocked down target counts as one point.  Saved rounds count as one point.

Stage 4:  Off-hand at 50 meters.  Five rounds off-hand for score.  Reduced paper silhouette target.  Two score areas.  Head shots equal 20 points.  Body shots equal ten points. No sighters.  Five minute time limit.

Note 1:  Depending on the number of shooters at each match, stage 1 will be run by itself.  Stage 2 & 3 will be run, depending on the number of shooters, concurrently.  Stage 4 will be run by itself.  Each shooter on Stage 1 will have a fellow shooter spotting for them utilizing a spotting scope.

Note 2:  Stages 1 & 4 are subject to change at match director’s whim to increase the challenge of it all.  Stage 2 and 3 will remain consistent throughout the season.

Equipment Requirement:  Minimum of one 22 LR rifle (more if you desire).  100 rounds of 22 LR ammunition.  Recommend bringing a spotting scope and a front and rear rest to be used for stages 1 through 3.

Match Schedule:

First Saturday of the Month, March through December.  Matches will not be called because of wind, rain, snow or fire.

Entry fee is $15.00 for Custer members, $20.00 for non-members and $10.00 for juniors (under 18 years of age.)  Sign in begins at 0800.  Firing commences at 0900.
