LONG RANGE PISTOL, BLACK POWDER CARTRIDGE RIFLE, HIGH POWER RIFLE, HUNTERS PISTOL, AND SMALL BORE RIFLE There are many different kinds of pistol silhouette shooting competitions. Originally designed to include as many different types of pistol cartridges and firearms as possible, so anyone could shoot the game. Unfortunately this was only successful for a short time before the specialist got into the act with equipment designed to move the shooter and the sport to a much higher level. It happens with all shooting games, but silhouette shooters really advanced the caliber of shooting. All is not lost, this advanced technology has given us higher expectations than we ever considered possible from our pistols. It is now possible to buy many different pistols, capable of sub minute-of-angle accuracy, something rarely seen twenty years ago. However the thought that someone will be competitive at a high level with most off the shelf guns is pretty much lost. Shooting is done at metallic targets cut into four different shapes, a chicken, a javelin, a turkey, and a ram. Targets can be at ranges from 40 yd to 200 yd. shooting is generally done from a standing position, with no artificial rest. generally shooters get 2 to 2.5 minutes to fire 5 rounds. EQUIPMENT: A Thompson/Contender is a good basic gun....with a 10" 22 long rifle barrel, a 10" 357 magnum barrel, and a good set of iron sights on each, you will be able to shoot almost any match available. Current NRA rules will apply
