Custer Sportsmen's Club is sponsoring a scholastic steel challenge team designed to support and build a shooting environment for young people ages 12 thr 20.  This new sport is part of USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Ass.) and we are using the same philosophy we use to run USPSA events; that is to teach young adults how to use handguns using speed, accuracy, and safety.

Custer's first SSC team is comprised of 5 young men and 1 young lady that make up team Gotta; they are
Sean H C, David Nonhoff,
Adam Thomas, Patrick Marshall
Matt Klein, and Makayla Studer.

TEAM Gotta had their first out of town match on May 2, 2010 in Sherwood OR.  The shooting went very well for the team, but first let me emphasize the comments I got on the team as a whole.  People repeatedly said what a great bunch of kids we have, their willingness to work on each stage, they were polite to everyone, their range etiquette, and their shooting and gun handling skills were superior to SOME adults.

Sean H-C took first place in the 22 shootoff and first place on the team over all.  The score keeper for the match looked for Sean and told him that he probably would have taken 2nd place in the whole match if he had not had gun problems on 3 stages.  Order of finish was Sean-9th, David-14th, Adam 18th, and Matt-26th.  I took Top Lady in the match.

Our next match is in Ephrata, WA. on June 5th, 2010 for the WA. State Speed Steel Championship.  It is a nationally recognized SSC match and their scores will get them ranked nationally.

Juniors are the future of our shooting sports.  Our thanks to the Custer Sportsmen's Club for the support!!

"WA. State Steel Challenge Championships  June 5, 2010"

"We had a good match in Ephrata and a fun time.  There were 67 competitors at the match. There were 36 shooters in the Limited division.  Robin Taylor came in 15th over all in the match and took 2nd Limited.  Sean Hughen-Coiro had the fastest time on Showdown in the Limited division.  TEAM Gotta:  First Place:  Sean Hughen-Coiro,  Second Place:  Adam Thomas,  Third Place:  David Nonhoff.  Overall Top Lady:  Kim Gorham.

Special thanks to Charles Shoecraft and David and Barbara Springer for driving us to this match and the Oregon match.  They also helped on every stage and are an absolute blessing to this team.  Charles also shot a very good match in the Ephrata match and came in 1.06 seconds behind Sean in the overall match (better watch out for him Sean).

Thanks to the Custer club for help with expenses and ammo, we could not do this with out you!!"

Thanks
