CSC’s Team Gotta wins Double Gold, Bronze at Nationals!
Victory in Ohio! CSC’s youth pistol team, “Team Gotta,” traveled to Morengo, Ohio to shoot speed steel at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program Nationals, July 14-18.
Despite relying on a much younger, much less-experienced set of athletes than last year, the team excelled — winning medals in every contest it entered. Team Gotta sent four high school students and five middle school students to Ohio, competing in Middle School
rimfire pistol, High School rimfire pistol, and mixed-age (or “Open”) optic rifle. N. McKay, Z. Coffey, J. Lundy, T. Dunn, and M. McGary won gold in Middle School rimfire pistol by a wide margin — with N. McKay taking the high lady trophy. Meanwhile, Jake Overstreet, Bryceton Bird, Phillip Greguski, and Zach Swartwood shot a personal best team score (195 seconds) to secure the bronze in High School rimfire pistol. Our “optic rifle” team (a mix of athletes drawn from the two teams at the last minute) shocked everyone by coming out on top in their first outing, earning ANOTHER gold medal. Special thanks goes to skills coach Gerald Rutgers (CSC’s bowling pin chair) and assistant coach James Coffey, whose
contributions were instrumental in securing the rifle trophy. Also a huge thank-you goes to “supermoms” Jessica Overstreet, Tiffany McGary, and Cheri McKay who did so much to make the team’s victory possible!
